The original AFX for the Friendship was availlable to the FS community a long time thanks to the work of a Daan Holthausen, the original designer. during the folowing years the AFX was used by numerous designers who modified and improved the original AFX.
When FS2000 was relased by MS it offered a higher degree of detail to the ac. At about the same time there where the new design tools such as Aircraft Factory 99 an Aircraft Animator relased by Abacus. Together they stimulated me to design a totaly new Friendship that now looks like a real Friendship.

Since the F50 was further development of the basic F 27 airframe The modifications where simple
In this F50 the gear now retracts prototypical, the props looks now like the real thing and now the transparent cockpitwindows give now a clear view to the flightcrew!
Further more the Flight dynamics are completely new and are only working in FS 2000.
The textures are now partly 512x512 high res so they look very crisp.

I am still developing the Panel an the sound packages and the first results are soon to be released.


History

The first major civil aircraft designed and built by Fokker after WW II was the F27. During 1950, Fokker determined what operators would like for a DC-3 replacement, and they developed the P.275 concept, with a shoulder-height wing, powered by a pair of turboprops. By 1953, this had developed into the F27 with Rolls-Royce Dart engines, seating 32 passengers in a pressurized cabin and capable of operating from small airfields. The Dutch government was so confident that Fokker had a winner that they funded the production of two flying and two test aircraft. The prototype flew on November 24, 1955, and the project soon began to yield orders. Fairchild Aircraft
also saw the planes potential, and secured a license-production agreement for airlines in the United States. The Fairchild machines had a longer nose for weather radar, extra fuel tankage, American instrumentation, and seating for up to 40. This version received its FAA Type Approval on July 16, 1958. The F27/F-27 went on to become the best selling turboprop aircraft, with over 700 built. The intial type was followed by the F27 Mk 200/F-27A, with uprated engines, and then the Mk300/F-27B with freighter features. The first major change was made in the F27 Mk 500, which had a fuselage stretch of almost 5 feet, while Fairchild developed the FH-227, which instead stretched the fuselage by 6 feet. F-27's were very popular with the smaller regional and local airlines as DC-3
and Convair/Martin replacements. They were very reliable, and many passengers enjoyed the fine views from the large windows unimpeded by the wing. Many F-27's are still in service today, and manufacture of this popular plane was extended by the development of the Fokker 50, with new engines and avionics. However, the closure of the Fokker company seems to have finally ended the story of this fine aircraft, although those examples flying today give good evidence of this fine aircraft's longevity.

Flying the Friendship
---------------------
F27 Speed limitations:

Max Gear Extension Speed-168kts.
Max Flap Extension Speed-144kts.
Never Exceed Speed-254kts.

Take Off:
Can be conducted with one or two notches of flaps, two notches are better for shorter fields.
1)Apply full power and accelerate to 100kts.
2)Rotate to 10 degrees pitch up.
3)Maintain 10 degrees pitch, and climb through 400 feet AGL.
4)Once through 400 feet AGL, reduce power to 14,000 rpm, and 700 tgt.
5)Maintain 10 degrees pitch and climb to level off.
6)Let the plane accelerate, and leave power set where it is for cruise.

(In the real aircraft, once through 400 ft AGL, the power is set to 14,200 rpm and 755 tgt. Once leveled off for cruise, the power is left at 14,200 rpm and the tgts are reduced to 730 degrees. There is no way that I know to do this in FS98. So just use the above mentioned settings of 14,000 rpm and 700 tgt.)

The F27 should climb at about 1,100 ft/min at 150kts and 10 degree's pitch up.
It should cruise at about 190kts indicated airspeed at the above mentioned power setting.
this is extremely close to the actual performance of the F27 loaded to about 40,000 lbs.

Landing: (ILS)

1)Five miles from the final approach fix (outer marker) you should slow to 140kts.
2)One mile from the final approach fix you should set flaps 16, and slow to 130kts.
3)One and one half dot's below glide slope select gear down.
4)One half dot below glide slope select flaps 26 and adjust power to fly the glide slope at 120kts.
5)Once runway is in sight, and you are below 400ft. select flaps 40 reduce power and land.
